How to strike a balance between Family Life & Online Degree?

Friday, March 20th, 2009

A distance education program offering flexibility and convenience to students to pursue their educational program at a time and place of their choice characterizes an Online Degree Program. It is a program preferred by professionals and individuals who find it impossible to spare time for a regular college course. This facility enables them to meet their professional and other needs with a study curriculum in their spare time. Whether it is to add another degree to their qualifications or to graduate or to specialize in a different career, Online Education gives you the technology and convenience to achieve your goals.

Demands of Online Educational Program

It is wonderful to even think of a possibility where the classroom comes to your home or office whichever time you find it convenient. How practical is this possibility? In todays heavily loaded jobs one just doesn’t find time to meet one’s personal commitments, from where will you squeeze your time out for education. I understand the fact that the requirements arises not necessarily out of personal interest, sometimes they professional requirements. The time you get for anything other than work is a small percentage of family time which is again occupied by educational commitment.

Online Educational Program is not a simplified version of regular college courses, except for the facilities of anytime and anywhere study, there are no compromises on the effort required for completing the course. Hence, it needs the time and dedication for a successful completion of the course.

Sacrificing Family Time

In today’s hectic schedule many families have lost the factor called family time together. The little time together is again snatched by other commitments such as additional qualifications and skills. With professional commitments on the rise the family time is simply zero. When you don’t find time to even for the simplest of personal commitments, where is family gone? In short today people have nearly forgotten the concept of family.

As far as our understanding goes any additional study is for career improvement and the time needed is not allotted from the professional time instead from family time. It is really sad ‘Family’ faces the maximum negligence.

Striking a balance between Family life an Online Degree Education

It is a difficult preposition. Sacrificing family time should be allowed only for the most important requirements. We know commitments are high and with the given commitment there is no time even to make a choice. Family is a part of life. Neglecting it is no way good. But at the same time compromising on the professional front is putting your years of hard work at risk. Hence a proper understanding should be reached, which will help you concentrate on learning and complete it at a faster pace of time.

Striking a balance is making the right choice. Again, sacrificing is also a part of balancing. In life, there are times when you will have to sacrifice family life for professional enhancements and sacrifice career for certain important family requirements. The solution is in the hands of an individual making the choice. Online Degree with ease of studying at home and also at your own convenience comes in handy in such situation.

Negotiating for a change in the work culture, accepting professional assignments which are less taxing, simplify work life atmosphere and share your responsibilities and proceed with a feasible role are few simple factors that can help you strike a balance.

If you are one with such an experience please do write to us, helping your friends in the society learn more from you.

Resume of an Online Graduate – The Must Haves

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

All of you who have recently graduated from a campus based college or an Online Education Program are probably in need to either create or update your resume. So what is it that you should include in your resume and what should you leave out? Presented are a few tips to help you get started:

No Need to Give Out Personal Information

First of all, there is no need for you to mention any personal information, for instance, your age, height, date of birth, weight, etc. On the other hand, make sure you do not leave out any contact information that might help your potential employer in contacting you, for example your address, telephone number, cell phone number, etc.

Highlight Information Using Bullet Points

Information on your resume should be highlighted through bullet points. Use an objective as to state your career goals, after which you must list your education. Make sure that you list the complete name of your conventional or online university along with the city and state in which it is located. You also need to include information about the college degree program in which you majored, and the year in which you graduated.

Mention Your Experience

When mentioning your experience in your resume, make sure that you include all of your past positions that are in some way or the other related to the job you are applying for. Use the reverse chronological order to list your previous jobs. If your work experience is relevant to your Online Degree Program , make sure that you define it well to draw attention towards it.

Do Not Lie

Last but not the least; you need to ascertain that you never lie on your resume. You need to realize that you have worked extremely hard to acquire your distance learning degree, so there is no need for you to tarnish it with dishonesty. You must double check your resume for spelling mistakes considering that mistakes of any sort do not help graduates of traditional or online college degree programs acquire a job! Your resume deserves a bit of professionalism, for which you might even want to ask a friend or family member to go through it to ensure that everything is the way it should be.

One would definitely not regret spending some extra time on these details while creating or updating their resume. These points are rather important and must be taken into consideration so as to create or update a resume in a professional manner.

Ways to Overcome the Negative Aspects of Acquiring an Online Degree

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

A vast number of advantages have been linked with the acquisition of online degrees. For instance, online education helps you fit education in your already hectic lifestyle, direct your education in whichever way you wish to and access your study material from anywhere around the world. But then again, eLearning comes with certain drawbacks. These drawbacks can be linked with the nature of studying in an online class or they can be related to the common attitudes towards the degree. The best part is that you can overcome these negative aspects with a little bit of determination and hard work.

The first drawback comes before you enroll in a degree program. The drawback basically is the selection of the best degree program itself. You must always check your chosen online degree program for accreditation before enrollment. This is because potential employers would ask for validation of your degree when you enter the job market upon graduation. Be aware that there are certain schools out there that have established their own accreditation agencies to accredit their own courses. These are diploma mills or fake degree mills and a degree earned from such a school is merely a piece of paper and all your hard work goes to waste. Conduct a bit of research over the online college or university as well as the program of your interest to ensure that you are enrolling in an officially accredited online school.

There are chances that your reasons for opting for eLearning might be questioned, which can easily be answered. There are obvious reasons for you to have chosen to study online instead of going for full-time learning. You can also point out that studying online on your own is far more demanding than studying on-campus as no obvious form of supervision is provided.

The chief negative aspects of online degrees are basically linked to the way in which the course is presented to you and your reaction to it. It is rather intricate to enroll in program that is conducted completely over the Internet, considering the fact that you have to be prepared so as to complete your assignments and complete your work on time. No tutor is there to remind you of deadlines of projects and you have to manage your education on your own. What you can do is create a timetable and make efforts to stick to it. This would help you get into a routine and complete your work on time.

The acquisition of an online degree can be exceptionally helpful for your personal growth as well as your career, only if you have what it takes to overcome the negativities right from the beginning.

You must also possess basic computer skills and knowledge. Online degree programs are basically based on the Internet and communication between faculty and students takes place through emails, hence having your own email address and knowing how to use it will help you immensely. You must also have basic knowledge of software programs such as Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access as such softwares are commonly used by online learners in their daily routine.

Self-Motivation And Time Management

Another characteristic which is common in all online learners is that of self-motivation and excellent time management. Remember that it would be extremely important for you to stay on top of your work without procrastinating. At times you might have to drive out distractions in order to study and complete your assignments. What you can do is dedicate particular hours per day to study and work on your projects.

Organization

Organization is another key to your success in an online degree program. It is important for you to set clear goals as well as the time it would take for you to achieve them. It would be best for you to set aside a separate study area at home, which would definitely help you stay on top of your online course. Make sure that you keep all your supplies, reference material and project material at hand while logging onto your online college or university’s eLearning website.

Being an online learner you must always be ready to take on a challenge by yourself as unlike a traditional classroom; there is rarely anyone available for help. One on one contact with the online faculty rarely takes place and communication depends greatly on emails. The key personal traits that would help you succeed in an online degree program are having the ability to motivate yourself, receive constructive criticism well, without getting discouraged.

You must also enjoy the online course that you choose for yourself to make sure that you do not lose interest. Simply setting career goals would only help you get through your online classes, but it would not help you enjoy them.

A combination of self-motivation, time management, knowledge of computers and Internet, organization has made online courses at various online degree levels available for all those who are ready to face the challenges. You would definitely get surprised at how much stamina it takes for one to succeed in an online degree program, but upon graduation you would feel proud of your accomplishment.

How You Can Use Your Online Degree to Enhance Your Career

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Do you love your current job so much that you are willing to stick to it for the rest of your life? Are you truly content with your current salary and the small increment you receive each year? If your answer is a straight “NO” then, you need to take certain steps in order to enhance your existing career or to move ahead and switch to a new career, which would pay better and offer better employee benefits. Presented are certain tips on how you can acquire an online degree and then use it to achieve these changes:

There is a general notion that people who have more work experience in their fields usually get paid better. Those who hold a bachelor’s degree acquire better salaries as compared to those who merely hold an associate degree of the same subject. Those who hold a masters degree get paid more than those who hold a bachelor degree and doctorate degree holders are the highest paid. Even though these facts might not be true all the time, but they are found to be true in general. The job market these days is extremely competitive and you need to have good skills, sufficient work experience as well as good education in the field to do well in your position and be successful. The crux of the matter here is that work experience and skills are acquirable with time, what you can speed up and acquire right now is your knowledge about the line of work in which you are interested. The availability of online degree programs at various eLearning institutions at all online degree levels has helped numerous individuals acquire education while working. This is exactly what YOU need too!

Acquire Your Degree Through Online Education

Most of the job positions these days have a preset minimum education requirement. For instance, a candidate for the position of junior engineer must hold at least a bachelors degree in the related field. If you currently work as a technician and hold an associate degree with a few years of work experience in the field and look forward to a promotion within your company or wish to advance your career by taking on a job in another company, then you must prepare yourself first by earning a bachelor degree related to the field of engineering.

But then again, the major problem is that once you quit your job so as to return to school not only would you lose a few years of work experience but would also lose your current income. In such circumstances, taking the online education or eLearning route to study for a better future is the perfect option, particularly if you have personal commitments or other financial responsibilities which stop you from quitting your job.

So basically, the attainment of online degrees is the perfect option for individuals who wish to move ahead in their careers. The best part of online education programs is that they are flexible, letting online students schedule education around their busy lifestyles and allow learners to study from the comfort of their homes.
