Finding Your Ideal Online Degree in 5 Simple Steps

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Finding your ideal online degree in 5 simple steps, is that even possible? There is nothing simple about thinking about what you want to do for the rest of your life. Choosing a life-long career is no easy task. This is a major decision and requires knowing what you really want to be in life. Most of us go through our first years of college not knowing what we want to do, on the other hand some of us know exactly what we want to be from the time we could talk, then you have the rest of us who thought we knew what we wanted to be, graduate from college and are unhappy with the major we choose, so how do you go about finding “the ideal” online degree in only 5 simple steps? Just follow the 5 simple steps below – that’s how!

Step 1:

Brainstorm - Write down at least 10 careers you admire and can see yourself doing for the rest of your life. Then think about the pros and cons of each career, eliminating the careers with the most cons. At this point the choices remaining should be around 5 to 7 careers.

Step 2:

Think about what you always wanted to be as a child growing up and do you still feel the same way today. When you ask most children want they want to be when they grow up? They’ll say with certainty “I want to be a fireman, a policeman, a doctor, a lawyer or a teacher.” These are the top answers most children will give, but as you get older reality hits and the dream of becoming a fireman or a teacher is no longer the case, but for others this dream may still be alive. If you still want to be today what you wanted to be 20 years ago, then I guarantee you, that this is the perfect fit for you. Now, go back to your list and see if that was one of your choices. Bingo! There is your ideal online degree. Okay, that was too simple, most of you are saying but, but what if…? Well, we’ll get into the ‘but what if’ another time. Today the title is about simple steps not complicated steps ;)

Step 3:

Research – Time to visit the library or if you prefer you can do your research online. Look up your degree choice, find out everything there is to know about you ideal online degree and if it is everything you dreamt of.

Step 4:

Now, the big question is whether or not your ideal choice is available online. So, it’s time to surf the net again. Search for accredited online schools offering your ideal online degree choice.

Step 5:

Select your online schools based on: accreditation, fully-online degree, financial aid package offered, affordable tuition, credit transfers accepted, 24/7 online access and online support. Take the time to research and make sure that you are getting a solid online degree. The more you know about what you are looking for and what’s available, the easier it will be to make a final decision.

Friends I hope this article was helpful for you. If I forgot to mention something, please feel free to add them to the comments section below.
