Marketing Your Online Degree – Taking Corporate World challenges in your hand!

Now that you’ve work so hard and have earned the degree you’ve always wanted, the question is how can you market your online degree in the corporate world? To some it may be a bit of a challenge, but to others it may not. With an online education from an accredited online college or university, you would have gained the skills and training most employers admires in employees. Most of these skills and attributes gained during your college years are an asset and can be applied to many positions. However, to is up to you to recognize your experiences and strengths and use them to your advantage. Be confident – be proud about earning a higher education!

Online enrollments have grown much faster over the past few years, according to a 2008 report, “Staying the Course: Online Education in the United States,” published by the Sloan-C, a consortium that promotes online education. During the period 2002-2007, enrollment in online courses grew 19.7 percent, compared with 1.5-percent growth in the overall college-student population. The study also found that more than 20 percent of American college students took at least one online course during the fall 2007 semester. Those figures suggest tremendous interest in online teaching and learning and employers are beginning to take notice.

6 Unbeatable Tips to Market Your Online Degree in Corporate World

1. Boost your resume: The first step in marketing your online degree is to find something that you are interested in doing and then extracts the necessary skills, training and education you gained from online classes and highlight those areas applicable to the position on your resume.

2. Persuade: Some employers may be skeptical at first about the value of online learning but reassure them that your online education has met the same quality standards as traditional schools and is accredited by a reputable accrediting agency.

3. Sell your passion: If you field of study was something you are passionate about and you were motivated by the pure joy of wanting to learn the field, then use the passion in your job search – let it shine through!

4. Be open: Don’t restrict yourself to a specific career. You should be open about every kind of job even if it is only temporarily until you have gained enough working experience in the real-world. Then later on you can pursue something you like. However, still show enthusiasm even if it’s not something you want to do.

5. Sell yourself: Your cover letter will play a very important role in helping you sell yourself to employers and could very well be the thing that will help you land the job. A cover letter tells potential employers what you can contribute to the company, how you can be an asset to the organization and the reason they should hire you for the job.

6. Research: Study job postings for the types of jobs you’re interested in pursuing and seek what skills are required for those jobs. If there is something you’re deficient in, then you can prepare yourself beforehand.
