Online Education – Giving a New Life to Disable Students

Students with disabilities today have a more straight and mainstreamed life than their counterparts in yesteryears. All because of the power of the internet and the possibilities and opportunities it has created. While previously, disabled students were considered a burden on the society with their lack of education and sophistication, online education has opened doors of opportunities for them, giving them a chance to give a new meaning to their lives and live it in a more dignified and meaningful way.

eLearning has revolutionized the way students with disabilities can acquire higher education. It has paved a limitless path for them to discover and explore to make them selves useful and constructive members of the society. Online degrees award them the confidence and the qualification to deal with any problem in life and stand on their own two feet like normal people.

The commonest obstacle to education a physically or mentally challenged student faced was that of mobility. Online learning freed disable students from this obstacle. Now with a computer and an internet connection, even a disable student can get an online degree sitting from home and get the same job as a perfectly normal individual.

Disable students can enroll in online degree programs and courses and start studying online from their homes with the help of advanced online learning softwares that create a virtual classroom for students. With eLearning systems and web portals, they can connect with the faculty members and classmates and discuss everything from issues relating to study to their personal experiences as specials, right from their homes. This unique way of attending school also frees them from bearing the taunts and derision such students unfortunately face in public domains.
The faculty at most online colleges & universities strives to provide students with as much personal attention as possible with tools like video conferencing and thread forums. This enables both students and faculty to develop a strong bond of mentor and disciple that goes beyond online experience.

Apart from the drawback that students and teachers cannot meet face-to-face, online education undoubtedly has tremendous merits that only a student with disability can understand when s/he enrolls in any of the online degree levels being offered.
