No, it is not easy to be an online degree student. To attain success in an online environment, you need to work hard and follow a disciplined approach. In a traditional classroom setup, you can interact with your faculty personally. This is not the case in an online education. As classes are conducted through internet, one to one interaction with your faculty is not possible. Finding Online Accredited UniversityTo become an online degree student, first and foremost you need to find an online accredited university. This is not easy especially with so many online universities operating in the market right now. Not all of them are accredited by the US Department of Education and if you take admission in a non-accredited online university, your online degree will be of no use. Before taking admission in any online university, it is better to check the prospectus first and take the opinion of students currently studying. Earning Online DegreeTo earn online degree, you need to study on a daily basis. There are number of students who treat online education very casually and only study on weekends. This is not the right way to go as syllabus of online degree programs are so comprehensive in nature that until and unless you study majority of topics that are there in the course structure, you are not going to clear your examination. Technology OrientedYou need to be technology oriented if you are interested in becoming online degree student. Apart from basic computer knowledge, you should also have a proper understanding of internet and software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, SQL, Tally and Oracle. ProjectOnline degree students need to do project on their own. Faculty members are not going to help you in selecting topic, research and format of the project. Practical TrainingThere is not much scope of practical training in an online environment and therefore as a student you need to look out for other options to advance your career. Study TimetableIf you happen to be an online degree student, you are going to face plenty of problems in setting up your study timetable. Make sure that you design your study timetable in such a way that there is equal emphasis on theoretical concepts and practical knowledge. |

I absolutely agree that you need to have a solid understanding of internet and software to be an online student. If you don’t understand how to cut and paste, attach a document, add hyperlinks or other tasks of the like, you add more pressure to your everyday work load. To help prepare yourself, meet with a counselor or instrutor beforehand to make sure you have full understanding of the technological skills you will need to complete your class or degree program. You’ll be happy you did!
